Narellan Road upgrade – more lights

The Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has proposed some more changes to upgrade Narellan Road. The proposals are an attempt to alleviate the traffic nightmares that are experienced by all – particularly in morning and afternoon peak times.

The main changes proposed are:

  • An upgrade to a six lane divided road, generally three lanes in each direction with a central median.
  • New traffic lights at Kenny Hill Road and Hume Motorway southbound interchange intersection.
  • A three metre wide off-road shared pedestrian/ cyclist path, including a pedestrian bridge over the Hume Motorway.

Whilst an upgrade is desperately needed and will probably be welcome by all users of the road, I’m not sure if added more sets of traffic lights will actually help.

The southbound offramp is due to be expanded to two lanes – very much overdue.

The changes will be on public display, with the community having a chance to voice their opinion before Tuesday 11 June 2013.
