Christmas/New Year is always a bit heavy on the wallet and purse, and petrol prices in the local area have not helped. I’ve seen a couple of stories in the last few weeks (one as recent as today in the Macarthur Chronicle) which prompted me to write about the cheap(?) petrol in Mount Annan.
From the Chronicle story, a reader reported seeing petrol 22c more expensive in Narellan compared to the same company in Blaxland Road, Campbelltown.
There was another similar story in mid November reported by the Camden Advertiser and the difference of 8-12 cents a litre between Narellan and Campbelltown.
I noticed this for myself a couple of weeks ago whilst driving to the beach. I filled up at Mount Annan, and then proceeded to drive to Wollongong via Appin Road. The petrol on Appin Road was around 8 cents a litre cheaper. I should of filled up there! I thought at the time that it was a one off occasion, but since then I have confirmed that it is the norm.
Unfortunately for local residents, if you are travelling on the Hume Highway/M5 each morning to work, you only have 2 service stations to pick from (one is a bit of a pain to get to if you are in a hurry). I think it comes down to planning your refuels, and certainly shopping around keeping an eye on the general trend.
Also, check on the NRMA website for cheap petrol . They also have a search function too which should assist in locating cheap petrol.
Would love to hear of any other petrol pricing differences from readers, or where the best place to buy cheap petrol in Mount Annan or the surrounding areas are.
Update: Buying petrol today (18th Jan 2014) on my way to the beach, I notice that the petrol was the same price at Mount Annan and Campbelltown. A big difference to when this story was first written.
