South West Rail Link to Narellan

For the latest news on the South West Rail Link, please see this newer post.

Infrastructure is in the news again – and so it should be. We all know of the traffic nightmares that unfortunately won’t be fixed overnight, but it’s good to see some plans being made for the future. Of course these relate indirectly (or directly depending on how you look at it) to the recent announcement of Sydney’s second airport at Badgery’s Creek.

The Glenfield – Leppington rail link is well underway and running ahead of schedule, with it expected to be completed in 2015 and apparently under budget. Driving through Glenfield a few weeks ago, I was impressed on how much had been done since I was last in the area.

The next proposed expansion will be to extend the line to Bringelly, and from there branch North to St Marys (via the new airport at Badgery’s Creek), and South to Narellan (running through Oran Park Town). The proposal would also leave room for further expansion along the corridor if required.

See the map below for a graphical representation of the proposed expansion (click to expand):

Currently the project(s) are in a consultation phase, ending June 6 2014. The government is asking for feedback on the station locations and overall proposal. There is an online feedback form and/or community sessions (one at Camden) for information and feedback. This information (and in further detail) can be found on the NSW Transport website.

What do you think of having a train station as close as Narellan? Should there be one at all in the local area? Please leave a comment below.
