The South West Rail link is due to open next month on February 8 – one year ahead of schedule and reportedly well under budget. But it is not all good new for local residents.
Next month, trains will start to leave Leppington, and will stop at Edmondson Park, Glenfield and then head up to Liverpool.
The first service will depart Leppington station at 5.06am each day, with trains every 30 minutes until the last service from Liverpool, which departs at 11.58pm.
Bus services will be added at Oran Park and Narellan to take commuters to Leppington Station. If you intend to drive yourself there, there will be 1250 car spaces at the two new stations.
Unfortunately for Camden/Narellan area residents, there will be no direct service to the city. This means that you will have to change trains at say Glenfield if heading towards the city, or even Liverpool for a longer trip. It’s a shame because I could see a lot of commuters that work in the city utilise Leppington station rather then where they go now (Campbelltown, Leumeah etc).
As reported previously on this site, there are plans to extend the rail line to Rossmore and then south into Oran Park and Narellan (and possibly Gregory Hills). I am unsure whether the go ahead has been given, and if so what the timeline is there.
No doubt the line will be extended North to link up with the new airport at Badgerys Creek, but this will be some time away yet also.
Will you use Leppington station when it opens next month? Leave a comment below.
