1/11/19 UPDATE: See this post for the latest info!!
The Mountain Bike Trail at the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan has been closed since May 2017, much to the frustration of Mountain Bike enthusiasts.
According to their website, it is to remove the African Olive weed but this was completed many months ago, and now there is another explanation for the delay in reopening.
The latest update from the gardens is from this Facebook post:
This is quite unfortunate, with local clubs and many riders offering to assist the gardens in repairing the track. The gardens have either not replied or, as stated above, said that ‘it is not a feasible option due to the scale of the work and associated safety works’. I’m not sure if the gardens realise that most MTB clubs are experienced in rebuilding and repairing MTB tracks.
What can be done to get the trail open? Well, everyone is open to ideas, but at the moment there is a petition active to get the trail opened again. At the time of writing there are over 2000 signatures! This shows the popularity of the trail, one where there used to be many events held at. Please sign it and share the link. It’s important to the community!
