Beware of police impersonators

Beware of people in the local area impersonating police officers. The below happened in Mount Annan last Monday night.

From Camden LAC’s Facebook page:

About 11.30pm on Monday 19/05/2014 two men dressed in collared shirts and ties attended a home in Mount Annan purporting to be police. The men showed a badge similar to a police badge but without a coloured backing and stated that they had a search warrant to search the house. The occupants let them in believing that they were police, the residents explained that they were not criminals and were business owners. The two men searched the house and took a medium amount of cash from a safe, the men also searched the family cars. They stated they would bring back a receipt for the money and the homeowner had to prove the money was lawful before it could be returned. The men then left the home.

A short timelater, two men of similar description tried the same ruse to gain access to ahouse at Gregory Hills but the occupant became suspicious and stated they werecalling the police to check, with this the men turned and walked away.

Real police will have photo identification on them which will tell you their full name, if you are unsure of any person claiming to be a police officer check their photo identification and if still unsure call the local station to check their story.
