Camden Council received a proposal of the construction of a 4 storey multi dwelling housing development at 1-5 Main Street, Mount Annan at the beginning of August.
From the council website, the proposed development includes:
- Construction of 256 units across 9 precincts (these units comprise of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom units) with a mix of 8 unit types;
- The mix of units are 50% x 2 bedroom units, 38% x 3 bedroom units and 12% x 4 bedroom units;
- The development will occur across 2 separate stages. Stage 1 incorporates 164 units and Stage 2 incorporates 92 units;
- Provision of a total of 550 car parking spaces (this includes both on and off street car parking) and is across a two level car park; and
- Provision of landscaping, acoustic attenuation measures and associated site works.
Annanvale circuit is the road that runs along the ‘newer carpark’ at Mount Annan marketplace, with the development area being the space that the circus normally occupies when in Mount Annan (see pics below).
The development has caused a stir with local residents, according to the Camden Advertiser , the two main points being the building height (4 storey) and the extra traffic to a existing choking local precinct.
For more detailed information, check out the site plans and elevation as well as the photo montage on the Camden Council website. The montage is quite interesting as it shows the development taking up that whole block of (currently) vacant land, with it predominatly ‘facing’ Mount Annan marketplace.
The DA is open for exhibition until 27th October 2014.
What do you think of the proposed high rise development? Is it a good for the area? How much will much the traffic be affected? Leave a comment below.
Update 4th Sept. – Received in the mail today from the council were details of the proposed development, along with a one page spread of the photo montage. From memory, I have never received such mail from the council in the 15 years I have been living in the area. Mind you, I’m not complaining – I think it’s a good idea to involve the community.
Update 10th September – There will be a public meeting at Birriwa Reserve Clubhouse on Sunday September 14 (3pm).
All local residents are urged to attend.
Mayor Lara Symkowiak and Liberal MP Chris Patterson will be in attendance. Hopefully the developer will be in attendance also.
Update 24th September – Camden Council have erected two signs on the proposed site of the development:
