The William Howe Reserve (correctly named William Howe Regional Park) is a great place to visit, being very popular with walkers and cyclists alike. A gravel road (with an incline) loops 2.5km around the middle of the park amongst the trees and fauna, making it ideal for fitness and nature lovers.
Surrounded by the Spring Farm, Narellan Vale and Mount Annan (see the map from the NSW government website), the park is also ideal for a picnic, but will require a bit of a walk to get to the top. Well worth the effort, because the views are stunning.
The park has several entrances (marked by the dotted lines on the map) located at including Welling Drive, Mount Annan Drive, Dodonea Circuit and Mary Howe Place.
As you can see below, the trail is wide enough to walk or cycle on.
At the peak of the park is a small landing area. There used to be a plaque there embedded into the stone wall, but unfortunately has been vandalised.
5-10 years ago, there was a good 360 degree view from here, but with tree growth the view is somewhat obstructed. However there is a clearing right nearby with a great view to the West of the great dividing range.
From late February to Early April, the sunsets are magic as you can see from the above shot. And with it starting to get a little cooler, it is the ideal place to exercise by walking, running or cycling around.
As I said earlier, it’s a bit of walk to get to the summit of the William Howe Regional Park but well worth the effort.
We walked up to the lookout, was very disappointed as we couldn’t see anything as the trees have grown up, if you have a lookout you need to see, cut the trees down as it would be a lovely spot otherwise, we are visitors from NZ and found that there was no sign post to tell you where to go and lack of parking in a campervan.
The track needs some work done on it as there are lots of small rolling rocks that can turn your ankle, lovely spot but needs cleaned up.
Yes the trees have grown a lot. It used to be a great lookout at the top in all directions. More and more houses are popping up 🙁
