News of the expansion of the south west rail link down to Narellan has local residents up in arms over the proposed route.
Further to the news/announcements made pretty much 12 months ago (read here if you missed it), the government has announced the proposed corridor ‘preservation’ that will connect Leppington and other new stations all the way down to and including Narellan.
As was mentioned last year, the extension corridor is proposed to connect Leppington Station to Bringelly and then head in two directions – north to the T1 Western Line near St Marys, and also and south to Narellan.
A number of core stations are proposed in the existing and planned centres of Rossmore, Bringelly, North Bringelly, Oran Park and Narellan. A station is also proposed at Badgerys Creek to serve the Western Sydney Airport. The corridor allows for additional stations if required.
What has caused some distress for some residents of Oran Park and Harrington Park to where the line is proposed to run – through their properties, some of which have reported to be only purchased recently.
The Transport NSW page for this rail project can be found here. Towards the bottom of the page, there is a link found under the June 2015 consultation which provides a graphical representation the maps showing the proposed corridors and new stations.
Pages 16 and 17 are of most considerable interest (to be honest i think just about every page is actually!).
As you can see below, the Harrington Park section goes through the parkland and some existing housing. I would of thought that it would go all the way along (or under) the Northern Road.

Also, looking at the picture below of the proposed end of the line at Narellan, errr where do cars park? Looks to be along Narellan Road alongside where the extension to Narellan town centre is currently being constructed.

I should add that the transport NSW website indicates that this is a consultation period and that period is from 7th June to 24th July 2015. The consultation period has been extended to Friday August 7, 2015
There is another community session being held
on Saturday 18th July between 10am and 2pm,
at Narellan Library (Elyard St, Narellan).
This week, there has been a mail drop with a the consultation fairly clearly explained
– download the document from here!
Have a look at the documents yourself and website yourself. There is a fair bit of info to digest. Would you be affected by the proposed corridor? And what are your thoughts? Leave a comment below.
